The big winner in our California department this month is McManis Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. This wine has been the go-to Budget California Cab here at Wine World ever since we first tried it, and Wine Enthusiast’s recent score of 90 points on the current vintage suggests that they would agree. When I heard that the last of this vintage was being sold, I knew I had to snatch up as much as I could!
Some background on the winery: McManis Family Vintners is situated in the recently-named appellation of River Junction, just south of Lodi, at the confluence of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus Rivers. The cooling influence of the rivers tempers the Lodi heat, allowing for the kind of balanced varietal expression at which the McManis family excels. The eponymous family have been growing grapes in the region since 1938, with the winery itself being opened by fourth-generation farmers Ron and Jamie McManis in 1990.
I’ll let Wine Enthusiast take care of the rest: “Richness, depth and generosity are good traits of this full-bodied but smooth-textured Cabernet. Light oak accents don’t cover up the ripe, juicy, almost jammy blackberry and cherry flavors that fill the mouth and linger on the finish. It’s an all-around crowd pleaser that has everything in balance.”
What else do you need to know? Well, how about the fact that I was able to drop the price on this vintage down to $9.99 a bottle!? Buy one case, with your 10% Wine World Rewards discount, and you could be walking out the door with twelve bottles of a reliable Cab for only $107.89!
Let McManis be your new “house red!” Need a great everyday bottle to unwind with over dinner on a Thursday night? Unexpected company in need of libations? Been assigned the daunting task of bringing wine for a “casual get-together” with friends? McManis is your man.
This is the last of this stellar vintage, so don’t miss out!
