The Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard is located in the Santa Rita Hills region of the Santa Ynez valley. The property has steep, south facing hillsides and a soil mix of sand, loam and limestone, and the unique cool maritime influenced climate tempered with southern California Sunshine. One would be hard pressed to find a more textbook place for growing chardonnay.
It is here that Bill Foley planted his vineyard. Taking a page from a burgundian playbook, the chardonnay is hand harvested, whole cluster pressed and fermented in French oak, then a touch of malo, to take off the edge and left sur lie for 19 months before bottling.
A beautifully rich wine that is well -balanced and structured with a core acidity and a streak of minerality. Aromas of roasted apples, lemons and ripe melon on a long, lingering finish.
