Introduction to Wine Class Series with Arnie Millan

Begins again on April 21, 2013 and runs through June 23th. Sorry, no discounts or vouchers may be applied to these classes.

Sommelier Arnie Millan presents the Introduction to Wine Class series begins again in 2013. The program of six classes is scheduled every Sunday from 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. Free parking is available in Wine World’s lot on the North end of our building.

GRAPES, VITICULTURE, and WINEMAKING

Sunday April 21, 2013       3:00 – 5:30 p.m -  $50.00 per class

We will learn a glossary of important wine terms, discuss the major international grape varieties as well as the basics of viticulture and winemaking.To register , click here.

 A TOUR OF SPAIN
Sunday, April 28th           3:00 – 5:30 p.m -  $50.00 per class

Spain’s wine history is the oldest in Europe and its wine regions reveal a wealth of indigenous grapes far beyond the famous Tempranillo. Explore Spain’s dynamic and exciting wine scene.

 A SURVEY OF ITALY 
Sunday, May 5th         3:00-5:30 -  $50.00 per class

Italy is one of the world’s greatest wine regions with an unbelievable treasure trove of terrific indigenous grape varieties. We will cover all 19 wine regions and taste 8 delicious wines made from native grapes.

A TOUR OF FRANCE
Sunday, June 9th       3:00 – 5:30 pm  $50 per Class


France is the touchstone for fine wine, the benchmark by which quality wine is judged. We will de-mystify and explain all their major regions including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace and the Rhône Valley.

NEW WORLD WINES 
Sunday, June 16th       3:00 – 5:30 pm  $50 per Class

New World Wines (U.S., Australia, Canada, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand). If Europe is called the “old world” then this class covers everything else including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, India,Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and China. Whew!

WINE/FOOD PAIRING, GERMANY/AUSTRIA
Sunday, June 23rd       3:00 – 5:30 pm  $50 per Class

Germany and Austria make some of the planet’s finest wines but few are aware of this. This class will definitely change your perception of these wines. The second half of the class focuses on food and wine pairing with a handout detailing Arnie’s Rules of Food and Wine Pairing. To register for this class, click here.

Arnie’s Wines of Italy: An In-depth 3 part exploration of Italian Wine

February 24th – March 10th

Italy! The Land of the Vine, according to the ancient Greeks; nowhere else is wine so closely intertwined with daily life in every village throughout the Italian peninsula – not even France. Nowhere else is there such a enormous array of excellent native grapes.

Beginning Sunday February 24, Sommelier Arnie Millan will be offering an in-depth look at Italian wine with three classes, each organized by region:

1. February 24th – The South (Campagnia, Sicily, Puglia, Calabria, Sardinia, Basilicata). To register for The South class, click here.

2. March 3rd – The Center (Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, The Marches, Emilia-Romagna, Molise, Abruzzi). To register for The Center class, click here.

3. March 10th – The North (Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, Liguria, Lombardy, Veneto, Alto Aldige/Trentino, Friuli-Giulia-Venezie). To register for The North class, click here.

Each region, its history and wines, will be discussed in depth with up-to-date hand-outs. Each class will include tasting 8 regional wines. The classes begin each Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.

David’s North Seattle Community College Fall Class Schedule

These classes are offered through the North Seattle Community College, but taught by Wine World’s Sommelier & Founder David LeClaire Students must be 21 or older; picture ID required. Classes are $39 (paid to North Seattle Community College) plus a $10 or $15 fee materials fee paid at class to cover the cost of the wines served. Classes held in the private rooms at Wine World & Spirits, 400 N.E. 45th Street, Seattle, WA 98105, just off I-5 and the 45th Street exit. Wine 101 with David 

Wednesday, April 10th    6:30 – 9 pm     $39 NSCC + $10 Supply Fee

Want to learn how to select, taste and enjoy wine? Experience the nuances that separate cheap wines from good wines, American wines from European wines, and understand the nature of different grape varieties. Learn with Sommelier David LeClaire whose entertaining and lively style will make the learning process fun as you taste your way thru the evening.

This is a North Seattle Community College Class, so you need to go to the link below to sign up and pay the NSCC registration fees. Students must be 21 or older; picture ID required. $10 fee payable to the instructor at the class.

Red Wines of the Pacific Northwest with David

Wednesday, March  6th   6:30 – 9 pm     $39 NSCC Fee + $10 Supply Fee

Tour the red wines of the Pacific NW with the lively, entertaining and knowledgeable sommelier extraordinaire David LeClaire, co-owner and co-founder of Wine World. Sample some of David’s favorite reds of the NW, including Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and some delectable blends.

Students must be 21 or older; picture ID required.

Please bring a bottle of water and eat before class.

The class fee is $39 and you must register through North Seattle Community College. A $10 supply fee is due to the instructor when you arrive at the class. Sorry, Living Social Vouchers cannot be applied to NSCC classes.
