Sam Smith Tadcaster Yorkshire Stingo is a well balanced English beer. It may have a weird name, but there is nothing weird about how good this ale tastes!
I love a little wood in my beer and Yorkshire Stingo doesn’t disappoint. This strong English Ale is aged over one year in oak ale casks before final conditioning in the bottle. The oak nap matures this ale into something silky smooth; with a bit of a bite. The malts are the star here but the hops are not forgotten. The bitterness on the finish balance the sweet plum malty taste of this ale. Plum is far from the only flavor in this complex ale. This English ale is full of raisin, caramel, toffee, vanilla, baking spices, treacle and more. My partner and I found it to be delcious, but we aren’t the only wines. RateBeer gave the Stingo a score of 97!
At 9% ABV, this is a sipper of a beer. Because of the complex flavors of this ale, it is a beer that I want to sip and savor. I want to really squeeze every thing I can from the finish before I go in for the next sip. This isn’t the cheapest beer, but barrels and aging the beer costs money, as well as time.
